Blackwell Beats Strickland

...if the subject is horses, that is... Harness Racing Portal:
While Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell languishes in the polls, his equine pacing namesake is turning her season around.

Blackwell, a nine-year-old mare by Nobleland Sam had just two wins and two second-place finishes in her first 28 starts this year, but she picked up a win on Friday, September 30 at Northfield and added a place finish on Friday, October 6, pushing her career earnings just shy of the $100,000 mark.

Now owned by Ryan Oskar of Akron, and trained by Ray Crawford, Blackwell (the pacer) has 29 career wins. Blackwell (the candidate) is stuck around 42% in several statewide polls, while Blackwell (the mare) had 42 starts in 2005.

STRICKLAND IS HISTORY-

In the interest of fair reporting and equal time, we point out that the 1940 foal Strickland, a pacing gelding by Mckinney Guy from the Guy Axwrothy Mare Jessie Dickerson, won $17,853 racing from 1942-44.

He took a mark of 2:09.2 on a half-mile track at age four. I guess on the equine side, Blackwell has the edge over Strickland. Ted Strickland is the Democratic candidate for Ohio Governor.
Hopefully our horse pulls it out at the end of this race too...

Other Guy's Remarks (Mark)

I wonder how much those horse trainers know about running a campaign.....Blackwell might want to give them a call....
