Boehner Supporters Write a Letter

Via the WMD Mailbag:
Dear House GOP Colleague:

This Friday, House Republicans will gather to choose the individual who will lead our Conference in the 110th Congress -- the person we ' ll entrust more than any other with the responsibility for uniting our team, rebuilding the Republican brand, and reclaiming our majority in 2008.

We ' re writing to you today because we all believe strongly that John Boehner is the right person and the best person for the job.

John has called for a return to the creativity, cooperation, and teamwork that brought Republicans together and enabled us to capture the House majority in 1994 after decades of Democratic rule. He ' s called for us to renew our commitment to smaller, more accountable, less intrusive government, and to the hard work and honest conversations among ourselves that are necessary to move forward together.

We ' ve all worked with John Boehner in different ways during our time in the House. Some of us served with him in the minority and worked with him to write the Contract with America . Others worked with John when he was our Conference Chairman, or a committee chairman. And all of us know him as an effective Majority Leader who stepped forward early this year under difficult circumstances, led a courageous drive for earmark reform and a return to fiscal discipline, and challenged us all to return to the bold ideas and unity that put us in the majority 12 years ago.

What is the job of Republican Leader in the Minority? As John has said himself, "it ' s to find policies that embrace our common vision, and blow the Democrats' shop-worn ideas out of the water. . .it's to hold every Democrat accountable for their promises and their policies. . .it ' s to fight for fairness for all Republican Members, in Committee Assignments, resources, and process." John Boehner is the one candidate in the race with the combination of experience, vision, principle, and leadership ability needed to do the job and do it well.

The 110th Congress will be a critical time for our Conference. We need John Boehner as our leader in the next Congress. Please join us in voting for John when our Conference meets this Friday to make this critical choice.

Sincerely,

Gresham Barrett (R-SC)

Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)

Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA)

Mike Rogers (R-MI)

Jim Saxton (R-NJ)

Pat Tiberi (R-OH)
