...which is why the Ohio General Assembly will never do it.
BizzyBlog proposes a law that would allow the posting of roll call votes by the members of the Ohio General Assembly. It is a terrific idea, but I suspect that there would be tremendous resistance to the idea because then the common Buckeye would be able to figure out how the sausage is made...
Honestly, this is the sort of idea that our friends at the Ohio GOP should be championing. It is this sort of governmental reform that will be key to winning the next election cycle. The Ohio GOP needs to restore its trust with the electorate and I can't think of a better way to do that than to make the process more transparent. Sure...the GOP didn't lose the General Assembly, but it is quite likely that they will if the entire party doesn't realize that they can't get complacent.
BizzyBlog points out that there is already a House bill that would do what we're asking, but that bill seems to be stalled and there is no sign of a similar bill in the Ohio Senate. We need to support HB323 or legislation like it that would make it easier for citizens to find out just how their representatives have been voting on the issues.
I'm not a big fan of statewide ballot initiatives, but this just might be one worth exploring...
