U.S. House Republican Leader John Boehner (OH) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) lowered its FY 2007 budget deficit forecast to $172 billion, a $76 billion improvement over predictions from last year:There is still a long road ahead..."As President Bush told the American people in his State of the Union address last night, Congress can and must balance the budget without increasing the family tax burden. Today's CBO report is yet another reminder that pro-growth economic policies put in place by Republicans are working even better than expected."
"Today's CBO report is also a reminder that our progress is dependent upon Congress making the tax cuts for American families permanent. Raising taxes on working parents would amount to economic negligence, and it would undermine the progress we've made in helping families keep more of what they earn. Balancing the budget while keeping taxes low will continue to foster growth and create even more family-wage jobs in America . Republicans and Democrats should work together to achieve this goal."
