Boehner Statement on President's Upcoming Announcement of New Strategy in Iraq

This came in this afternoon via email:
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on the President's announcement of a new strategy in Iraq tomorrow:
"Republicans and Democrats must work together to address our most important national security questions, including the war in Iraq . When the President unveils his proposal to more successfully combat the insurgency and to continue to meet the needs of our troops, I hope Democrats will join Republicans in constructively examining its merits. If the commanders of America 's Armed Services on the ground in Iraq determine that a temporary troop increase is critical to complete our mission, we should have a bipartisan discussion about how best to proceed and support our troops.

"My hope is that the President's plan will be accompanied by specifics, and I'm confident it will be. The American people and Congress need to hear clearly defined objectives and how the President's plan fits into our overall strategy for stabilizing the democracy in Iraq and rooting out the terrorist and insurgent elements in the country. We need to hear how a new concentration of troops in Baghdad will be coordinated effectively with the Iraqis, and whether it will affect and help improve the training and maturation of Iraq 's security forces.

"We also need to hear how this strategy will bring us closer to achieving our strategic security goals and to bringing our troops home from a successful mission; whether it will be accompanied by an increase in engagement by Iraqi security forces, supported by robust training and development of these forces; and how we'll measure progress for this new strategy.

"Every American wants to bring our troops home, and Republicans believe we must begin this process as we achieve our strategic objectives and strengthen regional security. Republicans and Democrats can and should work together to help stabilize the democracy in Iraq and reunite our troops with their loved ones here at home."
Democrats are not interested in supporting the troops and helping them complete their mission...
