ATLANTA -- Fourteen members of a Carter Center board who worked to build support for the human rights organization started by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife have resigned in protest over Carter's latest book.
The resignations announced Thursday are the latest in a backlash against the former president's book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid." It has drawn fire from Jewish groups, been attacked by fellow Democrats and led to the resignation last month of Kenneth Stein -- a Carter Center fellow and a longtime Carter adviser.
The members of the Center's Board of Councilors wrote of Carter in the letter of resignation "you have clearly abandoned your historic role of broker in favor of becoming an advocate for one side."
The book follows the Israeli-Palestinian peace process starting with Carter's 1977-1980 presidency and the peace accord he negotiated between Israel and Egypt. It doles out blame to Israel, the Palestinians, the United States and others, but it is most critical of Israeli policy.
These 14 people sound surprised. Look at Carter's record, look at comments he has made over the years. He has shown a lack of appreciation for the struggle of Israel, and has even shown a very angry anti-semitic side at times. Jimmy Carter more and more is showing himself not only to be anti-Israel, but anti-Jew, and anti-American. However, he does appear to be growing in opinion polls taken in Tora Bora, Tehrhan, Damascus, as well as the al queda internet poll entitled "which US President is most likely to convert and serve us?".
I, for one, hope that Jimmah's funeral is attended by only a handful and that they have it where it belongs, in Iran, home to the group Jimmah has done the most good for: Radical Islamofascists. I am sure Iran will allow Hezbollah and Hamas to come along and deliver eulogies of their own.
This man is not only an idiot, he is also mentally delusional. I think he should convert. In fact, from now on, Jimmy Carter is to be referred to as Jimmah al-Carter.
