Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement today opposing Water Quality Financing Act (HR 720), legislation brought to the floor by House Democrats that would increase the costs of federal construction projects by expanding Davis-Bacon prevailing wage mandates:"Promoting clean water by addressing our nation's water infrastructure needs is an important goal, but using this bill to also expand Davis-Bacon mandates would have an adverse impact on local construction projects, local economies, and American taxpayers. This bill would essentially shut small businesses out of government contract work by needlessly saddling them with millions in new administrative costs that only the largest of corporations can afford. And by artificially inflating labor costs, Democrats are adding anywhere from five percent to 38 percent to the price of every government project affected by this bill - a price paid by American taxpayers."
