Boehner Press Conference Highlights

Via email:
At a press conference this morning, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) blasted the latest proposal by House Democrats explicitly designed to hamstring the ability of American troops to succeed in the Global War on Terror. This is only the latest in a series of proposals put forward and withdrawn by Democrats who are "splintering" on how best to choke off funding for American troops:

ON DEMOCRATS PROVIDING A ROAD MAP FOR TERRORISTS

BOEHNER: "Unfortunately, the Democrats' latest plan is a twist on an old adage: 'failure at any cost.' Democrats are using the critical troop funding bill to micromanage the war on terror, undermining our generals on the ground and slowly choking off resources for our troops." (AUDIO)

BOEHNER: "Arbitrary timelines are little more than a road map for the terrorists, a tool they'll use to plot their maneuvers against American men and women in uniform. And tying equipment and resources to a series of conditions and expectations amounts to a little more than a revised version of the previous 'slow-bleed' strategy supported by Democrat leaders." (AUDIO)

ON HOW WAR STRATEGY SHOULD BE DICTATED BY GENERALS, NOT POLITICIANS

BOEHNER: "General Petraeus should be the one making the decisions about what happens on the ground in Iraq , not Nancy Pelosi or John Murtha." (AUDIO)

ON HOW VICTORY IS CRITICAL TO AMERICAN SECURITY

BOEHNER: "This is not your typical Washington food fight that we're in. The debate that we're engaged in is about the long-term future and security of our country and the next generation of Americans. And whether we're willing to stand up, and to take on the terrorists and defeat them -- or once again look up, look away, and just walk away and hope - hope - that we're not attacked in the future."
