Boehner Statement on 4th Anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Democrats’ “Slow-Bleed” Strategy

Via email:
“ America ’s troops deserve enormous credit and praise for the work they’re doing to secure Iraq and deny terrorists a safe haven. While in Iraq , and in talking with soldiers and their families in my district and around the country, the most common refrain I hear is: ‘don’t quit on us.’ We’ve asked the men and women of our armed forces to succeed – and they will, provided we give them all the resources and the support they need.

“As we prepare for this week’s debate on troop funding, we can not be blind to the fact that al Qaeda and its supporters will be paying attention. We should seize this opportunity to recommit ourselves to the necessary and historic task of confronting radical Islamic terrorism and defeating it – and providing our soldiers the resources they need to succeed. And we should provide a clean troop funding bill without extraneous or unnecessary spending.

“Americans understand the consequences of failure. Americans do not support choking off resources for our troops by subjecting them to the Democrats’ ‘slow-bleed’ scheme. Our troops have not quit on us, and Republicans will not quit on them. We will continue our fight this week on the House floor to strip the Democrats’ bill of the dangers it presents to American troops and to our national security.”
