Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today issued the following statement criticizing Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland’s decision to eliminate education opportunities for thousands of low-income students who will become stuck in underachieving schools:“It is very disappointing to see among Gov. Ted Strickland’s first budget cuts is to eliminate educational opportunities for thousands of low-income students who take advantage of programs to get out of underachieving schools. Instead of expanding education choices for Ohio’s students, the governor is intent on taking them away.
“In recent years, Ohio has received enormous increases in education funding to make sure that its schools are providing students with the tools necessary to guarantee them success. Since 2001, federal funding for low-income school districts in Ohio has increased overall by 43 percent. We should be encouraging school choice and encouraging schools to provide students with opportunities to better their education rather than forcing students to accept sub-standard options.”
