Boehner Statement Opposing Democrats' Draft Supplemental Appropriations Legislation

Via email:
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today after House Democrats circulated a draft of their supplemental appropriations legislation that will hamstring the ability of American troops to succeed in the Global War on Terror:
"Republicans will not vote for a bill that micromanages the war, undermines our troops and generals on the ground, and telegraphs a timeline for withdrawal to our enemy. Tying equipment and resources to a series of conditions amounts to little more than a revised version of the 'slow-bleed' strategy supported by Democratic leaders. That's not supporting the troops; that's playing into the enemy's strategy. General Petraeus and our military commanders should be making military decisions on the ground, not Speaker Pelosi or John Murtha.

"The safety and security of the American families, and those of future generations, is at stake. Republicans will continue to stand united in this debate, and will oppose efforts by Democrats to undermine the ability of General Petraeus and our troops to achieve victory in the Global War on Terror."
