GOP Veterans of the War in Vietnam penned a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the need to fully-fund the troops fighting in harm's way without attaching extraneous spending or dangerous micro-management provisions:
On passing a clean bill, with no strings attached:
"As the Appropriations Committee considers the Fiscal Year 2007 Emergency Supplemental for the Global War on Terrorism, a "clean" bill free from strings that hamstring our military commanders as well as non-defense spending is vital to ensure that the U.S. military is capable of defending against threats to our national security."
On the demoralizing effects of Washington defeatism:
"Our service as soldiers, airmen, and Marines in Vietnam made us witness to the demoralizing effects of interference by those in Washington. We are compelled by these memories to ensure that today's service members receive the support they need without political constraints."
Signed by Reps. John Kline (R-MN), Sam Johnson (R-TX), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), Steve Pearce (R-NM) and Joe Pitts (R-PA).
