Ohio GOP Update

Via email:
Critics continue to bash Strickland's education plan, the Democrats in Congress are raising our taxes and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner puts on her partisan hat.

Education

Since giving the State of the State and releasing his budget for all Ohio to see, it has become clear that Governor Ted Strickland would rather give sound bites about education than actually fix the educational problems of the state.

Higher Education

Strickland's higher education plan will do little more than cause colleges and universities to cut staff and resources available to students and create an environment where '(middle income)students end up going to Indiana or Kentucky, where their out-of-pocket cost is slightly cheaper.'

School Choice

Governor Strickland would rather force poor children into failing schools instead of giving them the opportunity to receive a quality education at a private school.

Abstinence Education

Strickland's budget puts an end to abstinence education programs on the grounds that he does not "believe abstinence-only education programs work in the long run." (The Western Star, 03/22/2007)

From the Statehouse

Republicans in the Ohio General Assembly passed the Fiscal Year 2008 and 2009 transportation budget. Senate leaders say this budget will "provide financial stability to two of its economic engines -- Ohio businesses and local communities."

From Capitol Hill

The Democrat majority is already trying to stick it to the hard working American taxpayer. The Democratic controlled House of Representatives passed the largest tax increase in United States history. In total, it will cost the American working man and woman an additional $392.5 billion over 5 years.

Jennifer Brunner vs. Bob Bennett

Forget all the fluffy rhetoric about making the county's elections more accountable, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is simply trying to force Cuyahoga County Board of Elections/Ohio GOP Chairman Bob Bennett off of the County Board in hopes of controlling the 2008 vote. But before she can fire the board Brunner, a former judge, has to hold a fair and impartial hearing to allow the board to make its defense. Don't be fooled, though. Brunner plans to do no such thing.

Quote of the Week:

"Unions and charter opponents have used the failure of about two dozen charter schools in Ohio to tarnish the entire concept. But unlike failing public schools, charters that don't perform can be put out of business. Failing public schools live on and on, trapping students year after year."(Job One in Ohio, Wall Street Journal, 03/29/2007)

Mark's Remarks

Once again, voters, we warned you. We told you that Ted Strickland had no plan other than raising taxes and cutting down on choice and freedom, and we told you he had no clue as to how to get Ohio's economy out of the tank. We give you several exhibits. And when more companies leave Ohio and Ohio becomes the 50th in business growth and favorability for new businesses (currently 48th), don't ask me what happened, because yep, I will say it again:

November 7, 2006

when you voters just voted out of anger at an inept retard of a governor's party and not against the man's ideals. Ted Strickland is not better than Bob Taft, he is Bob Taft's style on steroids. But, you didn't listen.
