Putnam: “First and Last Priority” of Supplemental is Supporting Our Troops

Via GOP.gov:
Congressman Adam Putnam, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement today regarding the war funding proposal that House Democrat leaders unveiled this morning:
“The first and last priority of the supplemental bill is to support our troops.

“Whatever concerns Americans may have about the challenges we face in Iraq, they want to make sure our troops on the ground have the resources they need to succeed in their mission.

“And yet, after a marathon, week-long debate on the House floor and several days of closed door meetings, Democrats have put forward a haphazardly created proposal that micromanages the war now in order to slowly bleed off funds for our troops later.

“This misguided attempt by Democrat leaders to appoint themselves war managers is highly ironic when you consider that they have had an awfully hard time micromanaging their own massive internal divisions.

“These Democrat rifts may be political in nature, but their consequences are perilous.

“Surely our bravest men and women deserve better than to have their government send them much-needed resources and reinforcements with strings attached and a pink slip to follow.

“Republicans remain prepared to work with Democrats to pass a clean, fiscally responsible supplemental that fully supports our troops.”
