Reserve Refund Ruse: Democrats' Budget Gimmick Will Raise Taxes...Again

Via email:
The budget crafted by Democratic leaders makes liberal use of “reserve funds,” a budget gimmick allowing Dems to trumpet federal programs of their choosing while pushing off tough budget decisions to a later date. Democrats propose additional spending for a number of federal programs but promise to pay for them later. According to the Los Angeles Times:
“With the reserve funds, Congress can avoid the hard choices that drawing up any budget, whether it’s for a household or the federal government, usually entails.

“There’s only one catch: The reserve funds are empty.

“If Congress wants to fill them, it will have to do what it has tried to avoid: cut from defense or domestic programs, raise taxes or borrow the money and drive up the deficit.”
Given their track record, who believes Democrats would actually rein in spending to pay for these programs? The more likely scenario is that Democrats would saddle the middle-class with an additional $115 BILLION in new taxes above their already historic $400 BILLION tax hike.

Given the cost of living these days, now is not the time to raise taxes. Republicans believe Congress can balance the budget in five years without raising taxes. We can balance the budget by keeping taxes low, promoting economic growth, and putting an end to the excessive waste, fraud and abuse within the federal government.
