House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today after House Democratic leaders unveiled their budget proposal to raise taxes and increase spending far above and beyond the President's request:"After 12 years of Republican family tax relief, today House Democrats unveiled a budget plan that polishes their old tax-and-spend credentials with the largest tax increase in American history. The Democratic plan fails to rein in spending and willfully ignores the entitlement spending tsunami facing this country. Armed with this budget plan, the Democrats' tax-and-spend plans now stand as the greatest threat to an otherwise growing economy.NOTE: On the first day of the 110th Congress, House Democrats voted to make it easier to raise taxes on American families.
"Like the old adage says, at least drunken sailors were spending their own money. With this budget, Democrats make working families pay for their spending spree. Their plan increases the family tax burden, slashes disposable income, and stifles the economic growth that creates new jobs and helps keep the price of consumer goods low. And they ignore the irrefutable fact that economic growth is a stronger generator of revenue than a raid on taxpayers' wallets.
"Republicans believe we can and should balance the budget without raising taxes. You will not find a single American who seeks to balance the family budget by spending more and earning less, but that is exactly what Democrats have planned for the budget in Washington . It defies logic and common sense, it will weaken U.S. economic competitiveness in the global marketplace, and Republicans will fight it every step of the way."
