Boehner: Democrats’ Ill-Conceived “Compromise” Moves Up Surrender Date

Via email:
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement after House and Senate Democratic leaders announced a compromise last night on the troop funding bill:
“Moving up a mandatory surrender date for retreat in exchange for an open-ended timeline for its completion is not a serious compromise, it’s just plain senseless. The Democrats’ ill-conceived proposal compromises the work of General Petraeus, it compromises our troops, and it compromises the security of the American people. In the face of a Presidential veto with the votes to sustain it, this proposal goes even further than the House-passed bill by moving up the surrender date that undermines our ability to achieve success in the fight against terrorism. Our men and women in uniform are completing their missions with honor and courage, and for Democrats to make them wait even longer for the resources they need is reckless and irresponsible.”
NOTE: As Democrats continue their attempts to undermine the efforts of our generals and troops on the ground, General Petraeus is scheduled to brief all House and Senate Members today about the situation in Iraq . House Republicans recently released a report on Democrats’ failures during their “first 100 days” as a majority in Congress. The report exposed Democrats’ record of failure on national security and notes “Democrats are not just sending our troops a message of defeat; they are setting policies to ensure it.”
