Boehner Highlights Strong Job Gains, Calls on Democrats to Join GOP in Balancing the Budget Without Raising Taxes

Via email:
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) highlighted strong new job gains this morning, as the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced that 180,000 new jobs had been created in March for a total of more than 7.8 million new jobs since August 2003. The nation’s unemployment rate also fell to 4.4 percent – a five month low. Boehner issued the following statement:
“Over the last 12 years, Republicans consistently provided tax relief for middle class families and enacted pro-growth policies that expanded our economy and helped create millions of new jobs. Today’s job gains are yet more proof that Republican policies are working, and that our economy continues to provide good-paying jobs to working families across the country.

“Republicans are committed to balancing the budget without raising the family tax burden, yet the recently-passed Democratic budget would impose the largest tax increase in American history on middle class families just as they prepare to file their tax returns. Raising taxes won’t help balance the budget, it will simply punish working families and slow the economic growth that continues to create the new jobs of tomorrow.”
NOTE: The Democrats’ budget proposal – passed on March 29 over unified GOP opposition -- would raise taxes by nearly $400 billion, not counting an immediate $50 billion AMT tax hike. The Democrats’ budget would mean increasing personal income tax rates on middle-income families, slashing the child tax credit, reinstating the marriage penalty, bringing back the death tax, and hiking taxes on dividends and investment earnings. Republicans believe we can balance the budget by keeping taxes low, promoting economic growth, and putting an end to the excessive waste, fraud and abuse within the federal government.
