Brunner Admits to False Charges Against Bennett

Via email:
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner acknowledged today she made false accusations against Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett in his capacity as chairman of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Bennett agreed to resign from the Board based on Brunner’s admission that she could produce “no finding of fault” against him. Brunner had previously accused Bennett of “numerous instances of misfeasance, nonfeasance and violations of state election law.”

“Jennifer Brunner has admitted her accusations were unfounded and her motives were entirely political,” said Ohio Republican Party Spokesman John McClelland. “Her acknowledgment that Bob Bennett is without fault is a dramatic concession on her part that exposes a troubling partisan agenda.”

Thanks for wasting out time and taxpayer dollars on this one...

Here is Bennett's statement, also received via email:
“I recognize that continuing to serve on the board with the current adverse relationship with the Secretary of State was not in the public interest,” Bennett said, “and she came to understand that, while there had been problems in the past, there was no wrong doing by the board. The Secretary of State wants to create the board in her own image, and she will have that opportunity.”

Bennett said he was confident that the new Republican leadership on the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections will continue to represent the public with the same high standards he has applied to his work on the Board.

Bennett praised the pending appointment of Jeff Hastings to fill one of the two Republican seats on the Board, calling the recommendation a clear indication of the high standards of intelligence, leadership and integrity. He expressed confidence that the Cuyahoga County Republican Party, under the leadership of Chairman Rob Frost, will appoint a person of similar qualities to occupy the second Republican seat.
Will Brunner now turn her sights towards Montgomery County? If she's intellectually honest, she must...
