Poll Finds Republicans would win Ohio in 2008

Via email from the Ohio GOP:
Ohio is expected to once again be the battleground state of the 2008 presidential election. And a new poll shows that, as it was in 2004, the Buckeye State’s 20 electoral votes will go to the Republicans.

Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, the current frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination, lead their Democrat opponents Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Al Gore, according to a poll released today by Quinnipiac University.

“Ohioans are looking for leadership from their next president, and the Republican candidates for president have the character and experience necessary to do the job,” said Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett. “None of the Democrat candidates have done anything to instill confidence that they could lead this country through the difficult times we face. In fact, the opposite is true. Hillary Clinton remains a calculating politician who morphs like a chameleon and makes up fake southern accents; Barack Obama wrote a work of fiction and called it his autobiography; and Al Gore can’t accept the inconvenient truth that voters just don’t want him in the White House.”

Ohio Results:

Giuliani – 46 Giuliani – 45 Giuliani – 47

Clinton – 41 Obama – 37 Gore – 39

McCain – 44 McCain – 42 McCain – 46

Clinton – 42 Obama – 36 Gore – 39

(Poll conducted April 17 – 24. 1,083 Ohio voters surveyed. Margin of error of +/- 3 percent)
No word on how Fred Thompson would have done in the poll...

Interesting to note that Obama performs worse than Al Gore in this poll... And the McCain vs. Hillary race is within the error of margin...

Final thought for the moment: 2006 wasn't about Republicans vs. Democrats...it was about corruption. If the Ohio GOP wants to win, they have to clean house; get fresh blood and return to the roots of conservatism.
