Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement opposing the FY 2008 Intelligence Authorization Act:“The fact that this bill cuts critical intelligence operations to pay for pork and other matters unrelated to making America safer is breathtaking. I am confident that the more Americans learn that resources used to support intelligence gathering will now be funneled into researching climate change, they will be as shocked as I was. While there are many different opinions on the issue of climate change, there can be no doubt that our intelligence resources are fully engaged in battling the incredibly serious threats of radical Islamic terrorism and nuclear proliferation.
“Today’s vote on intelligence priorities underscores that the majority is in denial about the threats facing America and is not serious about providing the intelligence community the resources and leadership it needs to accomplish its mission. Strengthening our intelligence capabilities is critical to winning the Global War on Terror, and it’s time to get serious about succeeding in this effort.”
