House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement opposing supplemental legislation offered by House Democrats to ration funding for America 's troops and spend billions in non-emergency spending unrelated to the Global War on Terror:"These bills are dead on arrival and rightly so. Some 94 days have passed since the Pentagon first requested additional troop funding, we're still wasting time on a scheme to ration funding for our troops as well as excessive, non-emergency spending that everyone knows will be vetoed.
"Yesterday I accepted a petition from nearly 3,000 American troops asking Congress to stop talking about retreat and to get our troops the resources they need to succeed. They understand that if we back down from the threat of terrorism, we're putting the security of the American people at risk. Instead of demeaning our soldiers with political strings and billions in excessive, non-military spending, Democrats and Republicans should work together to resolve our differences and get our troops the resources they need to be successful."
