Boehner Statement on Today's Proceedings in the House

Via email:
Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on today's votes to retreat from Iraq , ration funds for the troops, and cut critical covert intelligence resources:
"Today the House will vote to force a quick retreat from the biggest front in the Global War on Terror, to ration funds for American troops fighting terrorists, and to slash funds for the covert operations that have helped prevent another 9/11-style attack on this country. Given the unthinkable ramifications of each of these bills were they to become law, one can only describe today's proceedings as grossly-negligent. House Republicans are united in support of our men and women in uniform fighting the Global War on Terror and we will oppose these measures which undercut our troops and undermine our national security.

"The Pentagon's troop-funding request arrived on Capitol Hill 94 days ago. In the time since, the majority has produced almost two dozen different proposals to tie troop funding to various strings and provisions that would ensure defeat. The bills on which the House will vote today are every bit as dangerous and just a futile as the political exercises before them. Enough is enough. It's time to do the right thing and pass a clean troop funding bill.

"For the sake of our national security and that of future generations of Americans, I call on Democrats to stand-down from the political battles they have been waging and focus on the real fight to rid the world of radical Islamic terrorism. That's the fight our troops are waging, and they need our support."
