Butler County Update

The Butler County Republican Party's screening committee met and decided to recommend all six candidates brought before them. The Middletown Journal gives us the list:
[T]he final candidates to fill the county commissioner seat Michael Fox left empty are former West Chester Twp. trustee and engineer Jose Alvarez, former county commissioner and retirement community operator Don Dixon of Fairfield Twp. and state Rep. Shawn Webster, a Hanover Twp. veterinarian.

Fox resigned May 14 to try becoming the next executive director of the county's child protective services, now a division of the Department of Job and Family Services.

Treasurer Carole Mosketti is retiring from her post May 31 after being convicted last week of a misdemeanor ethics violation for hiring her granddaughter.

The treasurer applicants are GOP Executive Secretary Donna Defazio; US Bank Executive and former Middletown Vice Mayor Nancy Nix; and Don Spurlock, owner of Spurlock Insurance in West Chester Twp.
The idea behind a screening committee is to reduce the filed a bit, no?

So, what's next? The 240-member central committee votes on Fox's replacement on June 5. That same committee will decide who will replace disgraced Mosketti on June 12.
