Boehner: Lower Taxes & Strong Economy Shrinking the Deficit, Putting America on Path to Balanced Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement today after the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced its deficit forecast for this year declined dramatically from $244 billion to $205 billion:
“Today’s announcement is great news, and it confirms our strong economy – fueled by Republican tax relief and pro-growth policies – is helping to balance the budget without raising taxes. Unfortunately, continued progress is being threatened by the Democratic majority in Congress. The majority’s proposals for billions of dollars in new federal spending, massive tax hikes on working families and small businesses, and severe restrictions on American energy production threaten our economy and the more than eight million new jobs that have been created since August 2003.

“Republicans are committed to fiscal discipline, pledging to uphold the President’s veto of any bill that contains excessive spending and working to bring transparency and accountability to Democrats’ earmark slush funds. We will continue to hold the majority accountable for its reckless spending proposals, and will continue to fight for pro-growth policies that grow our economy and balance the budget without raising taxes.”
NOTE: Since August 2003, Republican tax relief and pro-growth policies have created more than 8.2 million jobs, with more than 2 million jobs created over the last 12 months alone. Our economy has now added jobs for 46 consecutive months and the unemployment rate remains low at 4.5 percent.
