WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on President Bush’s decision to commute the prison sentence of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby and leave intact the fine and probation handed down by the court:I'd be curious to know what Vice President Cheney has to say on the subject...“The President’s decision on Mr. Libby was the right one, and I believe it ensures that the interests of justice and fairness are both served. Given the fact that the prosecutor in this case never charged any individual with breaking the law with regard to the disclosure of Valerie Plame’s name to the media, I agree with the President that the sentence was excessive and support his decision to commute Mr. Libby’s prison sentence.”
Me? I think the right decision was made here. Boehner says it best, justice and fairness is served by this commutation. It's not like Bush pardoned the guy... Libby still has to face the world with a conviction on his record...while I would have prefered that Libby go to jail until the last day of Bush's term, this works too.
