The Vatican has finally put out a statement on the priest sex abuse problem. It's a doozy...basically, it comes down to this: "Oh yeah, well, sex abuse isn't just a problem with Catholic priests. So there!" This sort of finger pointing is not constructive nor a positive development. What the Catholic Church needs to do is accept responsibility for this scandal and take very specific and public steps to put an end to the acceptance of these guys in the ranks of Catholic priesthood. Here's a clue, Vatican: how about defrocking EVERY priest who gets convicted? How about actually assisting local prosecutors instead of obstructing justice?
