PRESS RELEASE: Carey signs American’s for Tax Reform Taxpayer Protection Plan

Newark, Ohio (July 11, 2007) — Today Mike Carey became the first Republican candidate in Ohio’s 18th Congressional race to sign the American’s for Tax Reform (ATR) pledge to protect the tax payers in Ohio’s 18th District.

“One of the main issues of my campaign is protecting the wallet of the working families, farmers, and small businesses of the 18th Congressional District. As a father and husband I know full well the importance of saving for retirement, college and even the long term care of a senior family member. I know how upsetting it is when you receive your pay check and the government has already taken a sizable sum. For this reason, I signed the tax payer pledge; I oppose any and all efforts to increase the income tax or any efforts to eliminate deductions or credits”, said Carey.

Carey continues, “For nearly a decade I have worked with small and medium businesses across the 18th District. Together we fought wasteful big government spending and over reaching government taxation. If elected to congress my conservative principles will not change. The role of government should be limited. I will work tirelessly in Congress to balance the nation’s budget and create a climate that fosters good, well-paying job opportunities for the families of our 18th District.”

Carey filed with the Federal Elections Commission to seek the Republican nomination in Ohio ’s 18th Congressional District on June 20th. Carey resides in Licking with his wife Kristin, and their five year old son, Prescott.

ATR was founded in 1985 by Grover Norquist at the request of President Reagan. Since 1986, ATR has sponsored the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written promise by legislators and candidates for office that commits them to oppose any effort to increase the federal income taxes on individuals and businesses.
