Cleveland Plain-Dealer: "Ohio auditor's complaints about wasted money should spur action - an editorial"
In the wake of the corruption scandal known as Coingate, you wouldn't think state Auditor Mary Taylor would have to argue the need for increased fiscal accountability among state agencies.

But since Taylor is a Republican, and Democrats control every other statewide elected office, this basic issue of good government has turned into a partisan battle.

Law and More asks:
Volkswagan expects to sell six million vehicles this year, up from 5.72 million last year. Not bad. In fact, it's so good that VW is considering, reports THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, building a second facility in the U.S. Will it consider Ohio? After all, that state is ideally located near many auto-part suppliers. It also has a strong manufacturing base and plenty of workers trained in those skills.

But, will the jinx of lawsuits or being labeled a liability risk deep-six OH's chances to lure VW there? Those lawsuits range from the proposed lead paint public nuisance litigation by the cities and even a statewide one to Attorney General Marc Dann's pursuit of corporations, a la the Eliot Spitzer model.

Mississippi was once similarly labeled. Then it did such a compelling job of tort reform that Nissan and Toyota settled in the state. Will MS win the second VW plant also?
If Ohio loses this opportunity, we'll have Hollywood Marc Dann to thank for it...
