Detroit Free Press: Dingell Outlines Global Warming "Plan" for Higher Taxes, Ending Home Mortgage Deduction

Remember when Democrats were campaigning on the idea that high gas prices were hard on the poor and how it was all Bush's fault and screw Big Oil anyway? Well, they lied. Again. Guess who wants to raise the price of gasoline? Again...

From the Detroit Free Press:
“Powerful U.S. Rep. John Dingell revealed Tuesday new details of his plan to cut global warming, including adding a 50-cents-a-gallon tax on gasoline and ending the mortgage tax deduction on what he called “McMansions,” homes larger than 3,000 square feet.”
...
But, he said, "if we are serious about global warming, we need to reduce consumption by making it more expensive. We need to do things that are difficult, costly and will require sacrifice from all of us."
The only thing missing is the plea on behalf of America's 25 year-old members of The Children (tm)...

UPDATE: On a somewhat related topic... AP News Alert:
WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush says Congress should not raise the gas tax to pay for bridge repairs until lawmakers have come to grips with spending on pet projects.
In the minds of liberals, gas taxes can pay for everything... I had forgotten about this crazy proposal. The president is right, get rid of the pork before raising taxes is the way to go.
