U.S. Sen. George Voinovich is getting ready for his big day. That would be...uhh...me.
No, he's not retiring after 40 years in politics (though some in the Republican Party wouldn't mind getting a fresh GOP star ready for his seat).
The former Cleveland mayor and Ohio governor is pressing his best suit for George H.W. Bush's visit. The 41st president is the special guest at Voinovich's Wednesday evening fund-raiser, which is being hosted by Nesco Inc. CEO Robert Tomsich at his Hunting Valley home.Am I surprised that the Bush family is going all out for this guy? Nope. The Bushes have a thing for hanging out with people they shouldn't. Remember how chummy Bush 41 got with Bill Clinton? Same story here... How well does this stuff go over with the base of the Republican Party in this state? Not very...but as usual, the powers that be don't really care about that any way...
Tickets range from $1,000 to $2,300. The co-hosts include the usual list of Republican donors: businessmen Ed Crawford and Malachi Mixon; Ohio GOP boss Bob Bennett; insurance executive Umberto Fedeli; and bank executive David Daberko.
Voinovich is up for re-election in 2010.
I'm thinking it is just about time for a YouTube ad for the Ham Sandwich for Senate Campaign...
