Much Ado About Nothing: Boehner vs. NRCC

As you all know, I receive news alerts that are keyed off the names of a number of prominent politicians. The email box has been lit up lately over a supposed spat between Republican Leader John Boehner and the head of the NRCC, Rep. Tom Cole.

Liberals love this non-story because they think it means that Republicans are all demoralized and looking forward to a long period of doom and gloom. I'm not sure what the conservatives writers are so jazzed about...there aren't that many that are writing about the triviality heard 'round the world, but the few that have seem to be feeding the beast of despair. However, with the shear number of pixels being devoted to the epic drama, I started digging in to it a little bit to see if there might be some fire underneath all of this smoke.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered just how overblown this story has become. Are the liberals in the 527 media and the blogosphere so desperate for any advantage that they would resort to exaggerating an internal conversation in to an Irwin Allen disaster movie?

I happen to know that Leader Boehner respects and supports Rep. Cole and the challenge that the NRCC faces. No party in the minority can claw their way back in to the majority without having a serious discussion of strategy and those talks usually involve a certain amount of candor. If a change needs to be made, it will. That reality doesn't reflect negativity, but rather the opposite. I find it encouraging that our party leaders are finally starting to realize that we need to get things in gear. When action follows words, that's when we'll turn this thing around...
