State Representative Lynn Wachtmann NOT Running for OH-05

Napoleon, Ohio (September 21, 2007) — State Representative Lynn Wachtmann announced today that he is supporting Rep. Bob Latta for Ohio's 5th Congressional District.

"Bob Latta has been a great conservative leader in the Ohio legislature for the past decade," Wachtmann said.

"We need strong, dependable and conservative leadership in Washington , D.C. , and Bob Latta is the right man for the job," Wachtmann said. "I know from experience, you never have to keep an eye on Bob Latta. He always does the right thing without having to be coerced.

"Rather than just voting a certain way to appease the voters of a district, he truly believes the ideology of conservative thinking, and that's definitely a rarity.

"Bob Latta will fight for our traditional values, the sanctity of life and for our Second Amendment rights, which he has proven time and time again. He is a man of faith, true integrity, and purpose. His character and his convictions are demonstrated in his public service as well as his personal life. Bob Latta is the kind of person you want representing you in Washington --that I want representing me in Washington .

"I also am confident that Bob Latta will oppose tax increases and stand for the limited government intended by our founding fathers," Wachtmann said.

Latta said he's proud to have Wachtmann's support and said it solidifies conservatives behind his campaign and provides momentum.

"I'm proud to have the support of such a well-respected leader in Ohio . Lynn is known for his strong commitment to our values and principles, and I'm honored to have earned his trust."

It was widely speculated that Representative Wachtmann would enter the race himself. Instead, he announced to a group of voters in his home town that he is supporting Latta.

"Bob Latta has a very impressive record on conservative issues," said Wachtmann. "He has a 100% voting record with Ohio Right to Life and was a leader in the fight to ban partial birth abortion here in Ohio . There is no doubt in my mind that Bob Latta will protect the rights of the unborn at every turn. He fundamentally believes in that."

Wachtmann also mentioned Latta's conservative record on fiscal issues.

"Bob earned the Watchdog of the Treasury award three times for his commitment to fiscal responsibility. I know, I serve on the Board for the United Conservatives of Ohio," Wachtmann said. "He also led the fight to end the death tax in Ohio , and signed a pledge to oppose all tax increases in Congress."

A native of northwest Ohio , Latta has 17 years of public service, including terms in the Ohio State House, State Senate and as a Wood County commissioner. He is married to Marcia and they have two teenage daughters, Elizabeth (15) and Maria (14)

Latta's father, former Congressman Del Latta, served northwest Ohio in the United States Congress for more than three decades. He was replaced by the late Congressman Paul Gillmor in 1989.

Gillmor's untimely death resulted in the calling of a special election, with the primary election to be held on November 6, and the general election to be held on December 11.
