On Dividing Iraq

Awhile back, Sen. Slow Joe Biden put forth an idea to "partition" Iraq in to three new countries. I don't think it is a particularly good idea because by imposing this "strategy" (for lack of a better word) doesn't solve the real problems that these groups face and will likely increase violence in the region.

If an Iraqi Kurdistan becomes a reality, Turkish Kurds are going to want their piece of the pie. If an Iraqi Shiastan (for lack of a better description) comes to be, you might as well call that Iran. And both of those will carve out what's left of Iraqi Sunnistan...

Furthermore, who are we to tell these people that they can't be a country called Iraq? It is the height of arrogance and hubris that leftists accuse the Bush administration of engaging in and it is hypocritical.

Why bring this up again? Well, Bill Sloat reports that Phil Heimlich has signed on to this insanity. Here is what the Manuever Guy has to say:

"The President should immediately begin working with our allies and the Iraqi leaders to develop an approach to partition that has the maximum chance of success. That is the only way we can fulfill both our moral and military obligations brought about by this war.

"This will not be an easy task. Difficult issues need to be resolved. What level of central government needs to be maintained and how will this be done? How do we protect the Kurds from potential attack from the Turks? And how do we avoid having Iran become the dominating influence in the oil-rich Shiite area? these are serious questions that will require our best minds and our most dedicated diplomatic efforts to resolve. These are challenging tasks, but the alternatives require that we dedicate ourselves to their achievement."

Where are the answers, Phil? All you have are questions... More bloodshed is not the answer; that much, I'm sure, we can agree on...

And what about the surge, Phil? Do you support this strategy? It is working, you know? Or is this about scoring political points?

I have followed this because I think it is important for Christians to know that if a tripartite government is made, Christians, the same folks that can trace their origins back to the two of the apostles, will be exterminated or forced to leave their land.

Mr. Manuever, I think this is probably the 2nd worst idea since new Coke. Come on now, as the Surge is working, you want to act like Joe Biden? What's next, you going to get the hairplugs to match? Say what you will about Jean Schmidt and pork, poor campaigning, etc., but on Iraq, she has remained steadfast, and that matters alot to this 2nd District voter.
