BSG: Razor

I'm sure that Mark will jump in at some point and tell us how awful it was...but I wanted to take a moment and chat a bit about the good, the bad, and the ugly of this SCI-FI Channel movie extravaganza.

The GOOD: It was great to see the old school Cylons in action. The old Raiders were a nice touch as well.

We got to see a fine ensemble cast perform their craft with style in this two hour flick-of-the-week. Jamie Bamber as Lee Adama turned in some of his finest work in the series.

The BAD: So, you bring back old school Cylons and their Raiders, but can't find an old model of a basestar?

Three seperate timelines to keep track of is really difficult to pull off... I can see now why they decided to cut most of the Bill Adama flashbacks and turn those into special features for the DVD...

The UGLY: I really dislike throw away characters and RAZOR had several of those.

Admiral Cain, played by Michelle Forbes, really went over the edge...but we really didn't see the inner turmoil portrayed by Forbes that the character clearly had to be facing throughout the discovery that her lover was really a Cylon agent. And all of the subsequent orderes and executions made by Cain seemed rather lifeless...

More: The DVD release is Dec 4th, so I'm sure I'll plenty more to say once I get a chance to look at it again...but my initial impression is that Razor puts the BSG franchise back on track after a weak last season...

UPDATE: Jonah has an update today over at the Corner that sums up my feelings on the whole Cain/Six affair:
Oh, they're lezzzzzzzbianss. Mmmmm. Maybe in the uncut version they'll don their Daisy Dukes and wash a Viper and get all sudsy in the process.
Of course, I'm selectively quoting him here... I will agree with his reader on this though:
Also it exp[l]ains some of Cain's allowance of such harsh treatment on Pegasus. In season two. Cain kicks an already broken #6 in front of Baltar. I don't think the torture and humiliation were actually getting much information. I know Cain already had good enough reason to be outraged (the whole 99.99% human race dead thing) but she did seem particularly pissed.
I always thought that Cain's treatment of Six was counter to her usual calculating strategist persona...
