Green Pork Update

From the inbox:
High demand and short supply are sending energy prices through the roofs of 107 million households across the United States , wreaking havoc on family budgets and straining the economy. But unless you believe that pork alone can be used to heat homes and that new taxes are good for American families facing declining disposable incomes, Democrats are privately finalizing an “energy” bill that contains no new American energy supplies whatsoever and will leave families out in the cold this winter when home-heating bills begin to arrive.

In the meantime, Democrats are working diligently to generate green “energy” for their House (of Representatives) this winter. But it’s becoming clear that the majority’s idea of “green power” means burning taxpayer dollars by the ton, and their activist Chief Administrative Officer – Daniel “Green” Beard – is lighting the matches on their behalf.

As the Washington Post reported yesterday, Beard cut an $89,000 check out of the taxpayers’ checkbook to buy “carbon credits” for the U.S. Capitol. It’s a practice that has been compared to the old notion of buying “indulgences” from the church, and for good reason – it accomplishes nothing, but makes you feel good about yourself. Here’s how “buying pardons” works, according to the Post:
“You simply turn over some [taxpayer] money, and the offsetters promise to absolve your sins by putting it to use on green technologies, planting trees, pumping carbon dioxide underground and the like.”
Throwing $89,000 in taxpayer funds may not make headline news in Washington , DC , but this is just the tip of the proverbial “melting” iceberg. Speaker Pelosi and Captain “Green” Beard have plans in the works to spend millions turning the Capitol into a “sin absolving” wonderland for Members and staffers alike.

American taxpayers already pay for the salaries of Members and staff; they shouldn’t be stuck with the check for the following additional expenditures this year:

· Hybrid loaner cars for staffers wishing to run errands or catch a movie during work hours.

· $520,000 (or $10,000 per week) in extra electricity funds to “absolve sins” by purchasing renewable, not traditional, electricity.

· The installation of a private E-85 gas station for Members on the Capitol grounds, lest Members have to drive elsewhere to full up.

· Segway personal transporters.

· $2.7 million to switch fuels for the Capitol power plant from coal to natural gas (even while 63 million American households use natural gas to heat their homes, but get nothing in the Democrats’ “energy” bill to increase supplies and lower prices).

· “Climate neutral” adhesive, sealants, paints, coating, and carpets.

From “commune cars” to Segways and carpets, Speaker Pelosi and Captain “Green” Beard will burn nearly $4 million taxpayer dollars to fuel their “green power” initiative this year alone, even though nobody can demonstrate its potential benefits for the environment or the return the taxpayer himself. As Rep. Vern Ehlers (R-MI), Ranking Republican on the House Administration Committee, said recently, “…using our limited House resources for purchases where the measure of return is so dubious makes me very wary.” Dubious indeed, Vern.
It is no wonder the Democratic Congress has approval ratings that are in the gutter...
