If you bothered to read the New York Times today, you might be able to find some important news about the US winning in Iraq. This monumental news could not be found on the front page. Nope, it was less important than the latest Global Baloney stuff or the latest hate Bush invective. No, buried way in the back of the A section, I believe A19, you will find the story titled "Militant Group Is Out of Baghdad, US Says." Here are some details from this buried story:
American forces have routed Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the Iraqi militant network, from every neighborhood of Baghdad, a top American general said today, allowing American troops involved in the 'surge' to depart as planned.
This invalidates the media myth about troops there without end and never coming home, so naturally the Times had to bury it. But wait, there is more.
Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of United States forces in Baghdad, also said that American troops had yet to clear some 13 percent of the city, including Sadr City and several other areas controlled by Shiite militias. But, he said, 'there's just no question' that violence had declined since a spike in June. 'The Iraqi people have just decided that they've had it up to here with violence,' he said, while noting that their demands for electricity, water and jobs have intensified."
We hve beaten back al Queda from Baghdad. The MSM tries to draw distinction between this al Queda and that al Queda, but it is al Queda. We have beaten them back and no one in the MSM cares enough to put it before A-19??!?!?!?! And here is another nugget you won't find being touted by the American MSM. Iraqi clerics are declaring a fatwah against violence. Sunni and Shia are coming together for this. Out of the UK:
First Sunni-Shia 'Fatwa Against Violence' to Be Signed in Iraq.' Senior religious leaders in Iraq are preparing to sign an unprecedented 'fatwa against violence' that will help reconcile the rival Sunni and Shia branches of Islam and herald new hopes for peace in the war-torn country." There is not a quick, easy solution,' he continued. 'This is long-term work. We have to engage with these people continually. The key thing is talking to them every day. Never before has there been a Sunni-Shia fatwa against violence. It has never been heard of in history. Will it make a difference? Not immediately. But I hope eventually it will.'"
But wait, let me depress the liberals who hope for more suicide bombings and more death out there. Let me make you want to get as drunk as Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick, or as he is each day. Thousands are returning to Iraq because VIOLENCE IS DOWN. Yep, here is the story:
The drop in violence caused by the U.S. troop increase in Iraq has prompted refugees to begin returning to their homes, American and Iraqi officials said Wednesday.
Tahsin al-Sheikhly, an Iraqi government spokesman, said 46,030 displaced Iraqis had returned last month from outside the country to their homes in the capital. "People are starting to return to their homes," said Maj. Gen. Joseph Fil, commander of U.S. troops in Baghdad. "There's no question about it."
Such assessments run counter to the overall trend detailed in a recent report by the Iraqi Red Crescent, which said the number of internally displaced people had more than quadrupled over the past year, reaching 2.3 million by the end of September.
Fil said the military had observed a different pattern, with 200 families recently returning to their neighborhoods in the northwestern part of the city.
"There was a time in Baghdad when there was a lot of migration," he said. "That has for some time now largely come to a halt."
In remarks made to reporters during a luncheon in the heavily fortified Green Zone, Fil also said that al-Qaeda in Iraq, a largely homegrown Sunni insurgent group that U.S. officials say they believe is led by foreigners, has been essentially defeated in the city.
But he added: "I do not mean to make light of al-Qaeda. Given a chance, they would come back swinging."
As we get closer to Veterans' Day, let's give credit where it is due. Our forces have done a great job with no support from our media, and very little from the Democrat party of the United States of America. God bless our men and women in uniform, and God bless the United States of America!
