COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Strickland administration has delayed plans to restore dental benefits for 700,000 low-income Ohioans.Rather than prioritize the spending, Governor Strickland would rather stick it to the poor. Which leaves me with just one question: Why do Demcorats hate the poor?
The state also won't be boosting Medicaid payments to hospitals and doctors who care for the poor.
Physician and dentist associations are outraged over the reversal.
Strickland spokesman Keith Dailey says the state can no longer afford the 65 million dollars a year price tag for expanded benefits, due to higher than expected Medicaid caseloads.
The program provides state and federal dollars to insure the poor.
Ohio State Medical Association spokesman Tim Maglione says it's becoming harder for doctors to stay in the Medicaid program since reimbursements aren't keeping pace with expenses and inflation.
He says there hasn't been a rate increase for Medicaid doctors in seven years.
