Butler County Update: Rawnica Makes it Official

The Middletown Journal has the story of Rawnica Dillingham making it official that she has filed to run against Chuck Furmon for Butler County Commission.
With $80 and 121 signatures, Rawnica Dillingham Thursday filed her petition for the Butler County commission.

This officially sparks what promises to be one of the most incendiary showdowns in the March primary, as she battles County Commissioner Charles Furmon for the seat.
This one will be brutally ugly and has the potential of doing serious damage to the Butler County GOP. I'm hoping that party chairman Tom Ellis is right and that the whole party gets behind whomever wins this race, but I know from personal experience that this race is serious.

What is this race about? Well, here is what the 527 media is reporting:
Her campaign promises: never raise taxes without voter approval, and apply more scrutiny to economic development projects.

Furmon said he's been campaigning since he was elected, running on his record and experience of 11 years on the job. His promise: to keep taxes as low as possible while providing quality services.
The real story is a bit more complicated. I think this race is for the heart and soul of the Butler County Republican Party. At least, it will be a BIG indicator of where the power resides in the party and has party politics implications that reach beyond the race at hand.

My prediction: At this point, I've not seen or heard anything that would make me believe that Rawnica will pull off an upset, so I expect that the incumbent Furmon will face off against the sacrifical lamb that the local Democrats have chosen. His name is Lester "Butch" Hubble, but there is no point in remembering that because he's going to lose anyway...
