Beginning Friday, Feb. 1, a number of passport changes will go in effect, including new passport card, new fees and a change in the age at which both parents must consent to a minor child obtaining a passport. • Passport Card: The Passport Card may be used only for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean. It cannot be used for international air travel. Like passport books, the cards will be valid for 10 years for persons 16 years and older and valid for five years for those under 16 years. • New Fees: Depending on your age, there are different fees and application costs for a passport. Age 16 and older the total cost is $97; under age 16, the total cost is $82. Click here for more information on passport fees.
• Age of Consent: All minors under age 16 will be required to provide the consent of both parents or legal guardians to obtain a passport.
