53rd District - Ohio House Endorsement

The editors of WMD have reviewed the data provided on the websites (and sent questions to the various campaigns on material not provided on the sites) of the three candidates running for this seat in the Ohio House of Representatives and have come to the conclusion that Paul Nenni is the most qualified for this position.

Endorsement: Paul Nenni

Paul is the only candidate to have a position on the critical issue of infrastructure. We believe that good government at the state level is really about issues that are not all that "sexy" and it seems clear to us that Nenni has this concept figured out. Mr. Nenni is opposed to the Commercial Activites Tax and is the only candidate in the race who has demonstrated an understanding of our business climate and how it effects the economy of of not only our region, but our state as well.

When you examine the issues, you will find that time and again, Paul Nenni provides real answers to the problems this state is facing and we believe that he has the best chance of getting things done.

Highly Qualified: Tim Derickson

The editors of WMD also find Tim Derickson to be an acceptable candidate for the position. There were a couple of areas in which we were concerned about Mr. Derickson and were thus unable to give him the endorsement. First, and most important, is that the positions provided on those issues where we could compare the two were rarely better than the statements provided by Mr. Nenni. Secondly, he has been endorsed by an ultra-liberal environmental group which caused us some concern.

Not Qualified: Terri King

There was very little we could discern about Ms. King from her website and her campaign has not responded to our query (which was sent via a webform since her site has no mention of a campaign email address). We had a difficult time deciding just what Ms. King was trying to accomplish in this campaign. We recommend a better, more interactive website (and candidate?) next time.

NOTE:

We accepted an advertisement from Mr. Nenni's campaign after having made the decision to endorse him. For the record, we are capitalists here at WMD and would accept advertisements in good taste from any candidate including Mr. Nenni's primary opponents. The advertisment had no influence on our decision.
