The Republican establishment is on the move. Our Beltway infected Republicans are still trying to force amnesty down our throats. Now, they are doing it by tying up some benefits for "resident" aliens in the "stimulus" (read pandering) package. Even as I was hoping yesterday that Sen. McCain had heard the clarion call for border enforcement first, his mates in the party in Congress are working with their liberal Democrat cousins to give free money for everybody. It's in the House version of the bill, and the Senate wants to put it in there.
The stimulus plan overwhelmingly passed the House Tuesday on a suspended vote, meaning no amendments were included in the initial legislation. A mini-brushfire broke out in the Capitol Wednesday as members realized that the decision to refund tax payments to ITIN holders meant illegal immigrants possibly could benefit.
John Ensign of Nevada is going to try to get an amendment to stop this stupid loophole, where instead of just a taxpayer id, they need a VALID Social Security number to qualify. Why not just simply spell it out--IF YOU ARE HERE ILLEGALLY, YOU GET NO REBATE? But that would be too easy.
