Boehner Repeats Call for Speaker Pelosi to Join House Republicans in Earmark Freeze

This just in...
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a press conference with GOP leaders this morning, Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) repeated his call for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to join House Republicans in supporting an earmark freeze while Congress reforms the way taxpayer dollars are spent. He issued the following statement:

“This will be a defining week for the Majority and their budget priorities – on taxes, spending, and wasteful earmarks. Speaker Pelosi should join House Republicans in supporting an earmark freeze to begin reforming the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars. Just as important, every single taxpayer dollar that would have gone to earmarks must be returned to the American people. That means deficit reduction or tax cuts – not moving billions into more wasteful Washington spending.

“ Washington is broken, and it will never be fixed until the earmarks stop and real reform begins. All year, we’ve challenged the Majority to join us in reforming the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars. Taxpayers are demanding reform; it’s time for Congress to act.”
