It was my intention to hold off on this until we had heard from all three of the candidates; but this is Day Two of the training of a new padawan at the day job, and I want to get this out there...
I am supporting Roger Reynolds for this position.
We can talk about seat-swapping all day long...but that's not why I'm supporting him.
We could talk about political grandstanding in order to get your name in the paper...but that is not why I'm supporting him.
I am supporting Roger because he has integrity. One of the candidates in this race has offered a job to a member of the Central Committee who just so happens is also an elected official. Roger has made the commitment to take a stand against corruption and nepotism. And I think that is exactly what we need for this position. If we are to restore public faith in Republican leadership in this county, we need to knock this stuff off...
Roger is qualified and competent. He is a skilled political mind and capable of retaining the seat in November. He's out there campaigning hard and I am proud to support him.
Bob Weber is a good man. I just feel that he isn't as qualified for this position as the other two candidates. The positive that he brings to the table is formidable though: he is a legitimate political outsider. But that strength can also be seen as a weakness as I don't think he could retain the seat in November.
Courtney Combs is a top-notch politician. My biggest beef with him is that I feel strongly that he is best delpoyed where he is... The Ohio House is in danger of being turned over to the Democrats and if that happens, we will need experienced Republicans ready to do battle with them.
In short, Roger is the right man at the right place at the right time.
8:25PM UPDATE: Twelve hours after I wrote this post this morning, our new Butler County Auditor is Roger Reynolds. Roger won a decisive vote to capture the appointment and under a resolution adopted tonight, Roger will also capture our party's nomination for the position for the November election as well.
