The End of an Empire?

It has been revealed that Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Some doctors have given him less than a year to live.

While I may find the way the Senator has lived his life and conducted his affairs reprehensible, I do not wish death upon the man. Though he was by far the least inspiring of the Kennedy brothers, he has had a tremendous impact on the lives of many people, not all bad.

This could truly be the end of an era, of an empire. Teddy was the last lion of the gilded American notion of Camelot. It truly will be a signal that some of the old things are past and we are entering a different era.

My hope and prayer is that whatever happens, Senator Kennedy will seek and find forgiveness and grace and peace with his Maker and that his family will rally around him, and that he will not be left alone when his end comes.

Despite my political, moral, and philosophical differences, my thoughts are prayers are with he and his family. My family has been touched by brain illness and cancer, so I know the pain it can cause and its uncertain progression. Again, Senator Kennedy, I pray you will find peace and grace in Christ and that perhaps you will realize some of the errors of the past in your life and seek atonement, and that you will find love and peace and joy in the everlasting arms.

Unlike those on the left who did flips at the death of Reagan or who said so what, I will mourn for the loss of a father, and like it or not, a leader in American politics. While I have engaged in humor at the Senator's past, I will not do so in his illness or if, God forbid, he is called past this mortal coil. God's blessings and grace to he and his family.
