Boehner, House Republicans Unveil Security Agenda

This just in...
WASHINGTON, DC – House Republicans today unveiled their security agenda designed to reduce America’s dangerous dependence on foreign sources of energy, secure U.S. borders and stop illegal immigration, combat the rising criminal threats in our communities, and give terrorists plotting new attacks no place to hide. The agenda is the culmination of months of work by Members throughout the Republican Conference – from those who volunteered to serve on the “Reasons to Believe” working groups to Members of the Republican House Policy Committee and Republican Study Committee to GOP Ranking Members and individual Members.

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on the plan:

“A key challenge for House Republicans is to detail for the American people the reforms and proposals that would be at the heart of a GOP Majority in the House. This agenda is an important part of doing just that. It recognizes that Americans face growing threats to their security – on our streets, in cyberspace, and around the world. And it offers common sense solutions to protect our children, seal our borders, and give our troops and intelligence officials all the tools they need to keep us safe.

“This plan – and the others House Republicans have rolled out over the past month – underscore the striking differences between the two parties in Congress. In working to ensure the defeat and retreat of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, derail the construction of a border fence, and keep America more dependent than ever on foreign sources of energy, the Democrats in charge of Congress are reminding people why Washington is broken. With this bold plan to promote better security at home and abroad, House Republicans are proving that we are prepared to fix it.

“To move America away from its dangerous dependence on foreign oil, the House GOP plan includes an ‘all of the above’ energy reform strategy. To fight for a more democratic, stable, and secure world, our security agenda supports preemptively combating terrorism, preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and isolating rogue nation states. To secure our borders, our strategy calls for state-of-the-art technologies and old-fashioned American might. And to protect our children, the GOP plan calls for new laws to stop sex predators before they harm kids and ensure that a child cannot be transported across a state border for an abortion without the consent of a parent or legal guardian.”
