Boehner Statement on the May Employment Report

This just in...
WASHINGTON, DC – Following this morning’s release of the U.S. Labor Department’s monthly employment report, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement:

“As costs of living continue to soar, America’s economy and working families are facing major challenges. But instead of providing families and small businesses meaningful solutions to our nation’s economic woes, this Democratic Congress has simply made them worse. Over the last 17 months, House Democrats have voted to raise taxes, voted against more American energy production, and voted to put their trial-lawyer allies ahead of working families – all of which pose a serious threat to our economy. Just yesterday, House Democrats voted to saddle every American taxpayer – from single filers and families to small businesses and seniors – with the largest tax hike in history. This $683 billion tax hike is exactly the wrong prescription for our economy at exactly the wrong time – particularly as our nation faces $4 per gallon gas prices.

“During times of economic uncertainty, the American people expect more of their leaders in Washington than massive tax hikes and outdated policies that keep our nation dependent upon costly foreign sources of energy. That’s why House Republicans are offering reforms the American people expect Congress to deliver. Our comprehensive strategy to help lower gas prices will bring America closer to energy independence by harnessing new technologies and unlocking America’s natural energy resources here at home in an environmentally-responsible way. And next week, House Republicans will unveil our economic plan to stop the Democrats’ tax increase, cut the pork, and create new jobs. Republicans are making clear to the American people that if the Democratic Majority will not lead on this important priorities, we will.”
