Here, Leader Boehner talks a little bit about the House GOP's American Energy Tour:
“If we’re going to get serious about taking a step toward energy independence, what we have to do is we have to conserve more oil which means we need higher cafe standards for cars and more fuel efficient cars. We need to save on electricity, we need biofuels. We need alternative fuels. This is why I am taking a group of members to Colorado to look at a big renewable fuels lab next weekend and then we're going into the arctic slope to look at ANWR and the fact that we can produce more oil and gas in the United States… What we want to do is highlight – we need to do all of the above if we want to get serious about making energy cheaper in America and taking steps toward energy independence. And we can do this is an environmentally sound way.”Boehner realizes that the American people are demanding more energy production:
“Americans are concerned about the cost of gasoline, they want Congress to do something. And Republicans and some Democrats have come together in a bipartisan way to try to move this plan. The Speaker and the Democrats who control Congress are standing in the way. All we want is to have a vote on ‘all of the above’ and specifically on more American made energy. All she has to do is allow the vote to occur.”And on the innovative, bipartisan clean coal-to-liquids energy bill that Harry Reid is sure to think will make us sick:
“America is the Saudi Arabia of coal. We have got more reserves than the rest of the world combined. And there’s a way to use coal in a much cleaner way. And whether it’s coal to liquids or coal to gas, there are ways to take coal, process it, and use it in a much more environmentally safe way. You can liquefy it, you can gasify it, but this is part of our ‘all of the above’ strategy.”Boehner will be joined on the American Energy Tour by Reps. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Dean Heller (R-NV), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Robert Latta (R-OH), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Adrian Smith (R-NE).
Rep. Bob Latta (OH-05) had this to say:
“My constituents, along with a majority of the American public have made it clear that they support an energy plan that combines both renewable energy and the recovery of domestic resources. This American energy tour encompasses both ideas and will lay the groundwork for a responsible, comprehensive energy reform plan for Congress to follow.House Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner (R-OH) -- will lead the ten member delegation to Golden, Colorado to tour the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and then continue to Alaska’s remote North Slope to tour the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
“I want to thank Leader Boehner for the invitation to participate on this important tour. I look forward to sharing what we learn with my constituents and colleagues in Congress so that we can start working towards lowering energy prices and reducing our dependency on Middle Eastern oil.”
