WMD Blast: Further Thoughts on Malariotherapy and Wind Power Edition

Before we get to the new stuff for the day, I wanted to take a few minutes to pick up a few ideas that I left out of a couple of items from yesterday...

Malariotherapy

As I pointed out to Modern Esquire in the comments, I don't think Vic Wulsin is really the story. I think the real story is Heimlich and the malariotherapy. The reason why Wulsin has become the focus is that through her refusal to tell one story and stick to it, it appears that she is covering something up. Is she? Nobody knows for sure until someone gets her under oath. That's right...I don't know for sure what she knows, when she knew it, or how serious (or frivolous) the whole thing may be in the end. But I do know this:

  • When asked what the results of the review board was, Team Wulsin claimed that she had been exonerated when in fact, she hadn't.

  • That is why Team Wulsin had to revise their statement to say that the Board found no reason to take further action.

  • That means that it is possible that there may have been a problem with the complaint itself and did not, in fact, exonerate Wulsin.

  • When asked about her involvement in malariotherapy, Team Wulsin claims that Vic was hired to do a "literature review" of the procedure. Nothing more.

  • But when asked why she didn't blow the whistle on these horrible experiments on human beings, Team Wulsin claimed that they did and she got fired because of it.

  • Which means that Wulsin was not, in fact, hired to do a "literature review" for the Heimlich Institute because she would have expected her employment to have been over once she completed said "literature review".

  • Which brings up the question of who hired Wulsin in the first place. Was it Dr. Heimlich? Or the Heimlich Institute? Or was it Deaconess?

  • But here is the kicker...none of that really matters. The real crime is the malariotherapy experiments on human beings. The reason Wulsin is caught up in it is that there appears to be some sort of cover up going on to protect somebody (and I assume that somebody is Dr. Heimlich, the Institute, or Deaconess).

    Pickens and Wind Power

Having seen the presentation, I must admit it is compelling. But I keep asking myself: Am I looking at the conservative's answer to Al Gore? Could this guy actually be perpetrating a fraud in order to enrich himself?

Pickens is an oil man. That is where he made his riches. He also is invested in natural gas.

The Pickens Plan is all about replacing natural gas in the energy sector for infrastructure so that it can be shifted to transportation. I suspect that transportation has the potential to be a bigger market for a product that he is invested in...

The biggest problem that I see with the Pickens Plan is that he is expecting wind power to provide 22% of the nation's energy needs for infrastructure and that seems highly unlikely at best.

Still, being an "All of the Above" guy, I'm certainly willing to give it a shot... If it can be done, I think it should.

    On With The Show...

  • OH-02 "independent" candidate David Krikorian thinks that the government is keeping secrets on the high price of gasoline. I'd tell you more, but the intrepid reporter from the 527 media outlet didn't bother to ask him what he might think those secrets are...that might have been illuminating. UPDATE: I just got an email from the Krikorian campaign touting a video on this subject. I'll look in to it as soon as I can do so...

  • College Republican Cross-Country Tour of Congressional Districts Comes to Ohio:
We will be volunteering with Congressmen Steve Stivers, Steve Chabot, Mike Turner, Geoff Davis and Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. This weekend we will be doing voter outreach in Columbus by going door-to-door with local Ohio College Republicans. We will also be attending St. Rita's Church Festival in Cincinnati on Sunday to help campaign for Congressman Chabot. Throughout the next week we will be attending several other local events such as the Wright Air Force Base Festival in Dayton as well as the Adams County Fair. We plan to be in Columbus for most of the weekend and then in the Cincinnati/Dayton area for the majority of the week of the 14th.

  • Jean Schmidt and Jim Jordan participated in a series of one-minute speeches against the Congressional funding of Planned Parenthood. Learn more about that effort here.
