Butler County: Juvenile Court Judge

In yesterday's open thread, we got a great question from "Observer":
There is a special meeting of the Butler County GOP coming up to nominate a candidate for judge for Juvenile Court. Whom does WMD endorse or suggest that members support?
Thanks to intrepid reporter Josh, we know the names of the players on the field. They are:
Republicans:

  • Hamilton attorney Tim Evans

  • Butler County Common Pleas Court Domestic Relations Division Magistrate Barbara Schneider Carter

  • Juvenile Division Magistrate Jeffrey Milbauer

  • Democrats:

  • Middletown attorney and Juvenile Division Magistrate Kathleen Romans
  • The Democrat isn't likely to win anyway, so let's focus on the Republicans...

Here is what I know about Tim Evans: he's a stellar attorney; he's run for Common Pleas Judge; and he hasn't "thought about the Dunn trade much, but he has noticed a trend of trading for younger players." (Source)
"It doesn't seem like they (the Reds) know what they're doing," he added.
You can say that again, Tim...

Moving on to Barbara Schneider Carter...She was an assistant prosecutor in the county's drug court, but she has also handled domestic violence cases. I don't know what she might think of the Adam Dunn deal, but in 2001 she was reappointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to the Commission on Professionalism.

And lastly, Jeffrey Milbauer: Like Evans, he ran for Common Pleas judge. To this point, he is the only candidate to send out anything asking for support that hit my mailbox. What Milbauer brings to the table is that he worked with Judge Niehaus and would bring a similar mindset to the job.

At the moment, I'd have to say that I am leaning in the direction of Milbauer...but that may change as I get to know these candidates over the next few days. I'll be joining my Central Committee colleagues on Monday night to vote on the endorsement.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Apparently, only the Central Committee will be voting on Monday. There is some confusion because this is the first time this happened in Butler County while Democrats control the Governor's Mansion. The party has been advised that only the Central Committee is to vote on this issue.

Also...I should also be receiving a letter from Tim Evans in my mailbox today. That will add to the knowledge base and we should be a whole lot closer to being able to actually endorse someone by the end of the week (and maybe sooner if we hear from Barbara Schneider Carter).
